We all know Japan produces some amazing DJ’s. Take Kentaro, Krush and Muro for example. But what happens when you combine extraordinarily talented DJ skills with percussion skills? You get a healthy dose of Hifana.
These two jovial looking characters are the Sushi Masters equivalent of turntable percussionists. KEIZOmachine! (Keizo Fukuda) and Juicy (Jun Miyata) formed Hifana back in 1998 and have been rocking stages across the globe every since. With a mix of everything from traditional Japanese instruments, loops and breaks, to Jamaican steel drums and bongos, to turntables, kaoss pad’s and mpc’s these two really are multi instrumentalists.
Hifana released their first album in 2003, Fresh Push Breakin’ which included an amazing display into their actual performance techniques:
Nike has also taken notice of their talents and incorporated them into some very clever marketing:
They now also create their own vinyl records, consisting of non skip breaks which are all designed to be perfectly mixed and scratched together - VIDEO. On top of all that they have also released an application for iPhones which is pretty damn addictive - APPLICATION.
